The first version of Windows Mobile was launched in 2000 and has evolved into a robust mobile platform that enables advanced features and a customizable user experience, making Windows Mobile devices great for data services. Windows Mobile applications are easily downloaded onto the phone using the web browser or can be loaded from a PC. Over 18M Windows Mobile phones were sold in 2008. Microsoft will also be launching an application store similar to iTunes with the launch of Windows Mobile 7.0 in 2009.
